ALREADY HOME
What is Already Home?
Already Home is a new, original musical with book, lyrics, and music by Isa Very and arrangement by Jackson Machesky and Neil Baker. The story focuses on Clara, an incoming Freshman to Barnes University, who must navigate the mental toil of college while facing traumatic familial tragedy. Isa, a close personal friend of mine, asked me to help with arrangement during the first semester of my Sophomore year, as she was not a trained musician and needed help fleshing out the score and orchestration. Originally planned as a limited score with piano and a string quartet, the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic forced a creative team separated across three different continents to downsize to a simple piano-vocal score and a completely virtual production. Instead of presenting Already Home on the stage, we instead reimagined the musical as a meta-commentary on the creation of theatre itself, multi-casting every role and developing a website that takes you through an annotated libretto and the process of creating theatre scene-by-scene. Through Already Home I had the opportunity to arrange nine of thirteen pieces of music, perform as 'Matthew' in multiple scenes in the show, mix complex vocal arrangements, and provide annotations on my own creative process. It was an incredibly rewarding experience for which I am extremely thankful.
